PKR president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says he is unaware of claims that his former deputy, Azmin Ali, has been approached to rejoin the party.
Speaking at the National Innovation and Commercialisation Expo 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar told reporters he had not been informed of any such offer.
Azmin Ali Rules Out Rejoining PKR
Azmin, currently Bersatu’s secretary-general, has ruled out returning to PKR despite Anwar’s recent call at the party congress for former leaders and activists to come back.
Former PKR vice-presidents Tian Chua and Dr Xavier Jayakumar have already confirmed their return, fueling speculation that more ex-leaders may follow.
Azmin, however, insisted Bersatu remains the best platform for his political career, even as the party faces internal challenges. He was expelled from PKR in February 2020 after his role in the Sheraton Move, which saw Bersatu withdraw from Pakatan Harapan and led to the coalition government’s collapse.
Anwar’s remarks highlight the uncertainty surrounding reconciliation efforts within PKR, as the party seeks to strengthen unity while navigating the return of former figures.
