Singapore police have arrested 195 people and frozen bank accounts holding more than S$600,000 following a series of islandwide vice raids, Malay Mail reported.
The police announced the results of the Singapore vice raids on Sunday (Nov 8). The operations were carried out between Sept 14 and Oct 30 at 61 locations, including massage establishments, public entertainment outlets, beauty salons, hotels and residential units.
195 Arrested in Singapore Vice Raids
Those arrested were eight men and 187 women aged between 18 and 63. Sixteen of them were alleged vice abettors, according to the police.
Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) led the operation with support from seven police land divisions. Mothership reported that the Specialised Crime Branch of the CID was involved.
Police seized mobile phones, computers, vice-related paraphernalia and more than S$150,000 in cash. Several bank accounts containing more than S$600,000 were also frozen.
Mothership reported that the 195 were arrested for alleged offences under the Women’s Charter 1961, the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act 1990, the Gambling Control Act 2022 and the Penal Code 1871.
Man, 41, Charged in Court
A 41-year-old man was charged in court on Oct 23 over his alleged involvement in facilitating vice activities. Mothership identified him as a Singaporean and said he was charged under Section 146A(1)(b) of the Women’s Charter 1961.
Investigations against the other people arrested are ongoing, police said.
CID director Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Julius Lim said vice syndicates are linked to other crimes and pose wider threats to public safety and security.
With these syndicates increasingly exploiting technology and operating across borders, he said, “our enforcement efforts must keep pace”, both at home and with foreign partners.
