Singaporean Writer Detained in JB for Filming Immigration Officers

Singaporean writer Atalia Nyx Chua shared on TikTok that she was detained for seven days at the Johor Bahru Checkpoint on August 7. The incident, which occurred around 8:40am, involved immigration officers who were verbally abusive.

Atalia filmed the officers, which is prohibited in Malaysian security checkpoints. One officer demanded her passport, which she refused to hand over. She was then taken to an office where she was further investigated.

Atalia described the officers’ alleged inappropriate behaviour, including one officer allegedly making offensive comments and another attempting to take her picture. The situation escalated until she was detained.
