A 56‑year‑old female hiker drowned after slipping into Sungai Betis while trekking at Pos Balar, Gua Musang. District police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the victim, part of an 11‑member expedition covering Gunung Gerah, Gunung Bilah, and Gunung Biyed, fell at 7.30pm on May 2 while crossing the river in the dark.

A Search and Rescue operation involving a four‑hour drive and a 10‑hour trek recovered her body 300 metres downstream at 8am on May 3. The victim, a single mother from Kuala Lumpur, was confirmed dead and the case classified as sudden death.
