A Singaporean woman has been sentenced to six years and three months in jail for her role in the abuse of five-year-old Ayeesha, who was beaten to death by her biological father in August 2017. The 35-year-old stepmother pleaded guilty to three charges of child abuse and giving false information to police.

Court documents revealed the children endured nearly two years of mistreatment, including beatings and confinement naked in a toilet, where they were forced to eat their own faeces out of hunger. The father’s sentence was increased to life imprisonment after his failed appeal to reduce a 34.5-year term.
