Several former Umno leaders, once considered “big names,” are unlikely to return despite the party opening its doors through the Rumah Bangsa initiative. Among them is former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar, who remains “Umno at heart” but refuses to rejoin while the party cooperates with DAP.
Umno Expulsions Still Haunt Party’s Reconciliation Efforts
Noh, expelled in January 2023 alongside Khairy Jamaluddin, briefly joined Bersatu before resigning. Former secretary‑general Annuar Musa is expected to stay with PAS, while Rais Yatim has also distanced himself. Although some leaders may return, only Khairy and Hishammuddin Hussein have formally applied to resume active roles in Umno.
