Established in 2020, the TikTok creators fund was made to reward users who have an established following for using the app but to get paid you may need around 100,000 authentic followers – not bought bots. The fund does not seem to be a lucrative as it’s presented to be, with top TikToker Preston Seo, who now has 2.5 million followers telling Business Insider that between January and May 2021, the fund paid him a total of about $1,664.

This payment scheme has left many content creators disheartened, with some expressing their disappointment to Business Insider, revealing earnings as low as a few cents to $17 in their initial two monthly payments from Pulse.

TikTok also offers creators the opportunity to receive virtual gifts during livestreams, which can be exchanged for cash. For instance, Australian ‘sleepfluencer’ Jakey Boehm, who streams on TikTok while attempting to sleep as fans try to keep him awake, reportedly amassed $34,000 from TikTok Live in just one month.
