KUALA LUMPUR: The total fertility rate (TFR) of Malaysians has declined from 2.1 children per female in 2010 to 1.6 in 2022, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia’s Vital Statistics 2023 Report. Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri cited economic factors, lifestyle choices, and infertility issues as contributing factors.

In response, the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) has introduced initiatives like affordable fertility treatment services and tax exemptions for fertility treatments. Nancy emphasized that decisions about having children and family size remain personal rights of each couple.
