President Donald Trump has signed an executive order reducing tariffs on Japanese autos from 27.5% to 15%, as Washington moves to implement a trade pact with Tokyo. The decision follows weeks of negotiations after both nations unveiled the agreement in late July, though initial confusion arose when higher tariffs were imposed in early August.
Trump Signs Order to Slash Japanese Auto Tariffs to 15%
Japan’s tariff envoy Ryosei Akazawa traveled to Washington to press for the changes, which the White House confirmed on Thursday. Under the new order, many other Japanese goods will also face a capped 15% tariff. The revisions are to take effect once published in the Federal Register.
