What will happen to online tuition – from the private tuition sector viewpoint indeed – after everything is back to normal? Are we going to let go of the technological advantages the sector and the education industry as a whole adopted during the pandemic?
With the pandemic, there has been a paradigm shift in the entire business community where many businesses moved a significant portion of their business online and consumers also shifted largely to online purchasing. This is the same with online tuition.
With everything turning back to normal, I strongly believe that students will continue to appreciate and grow with the technological advantages and will continue to enjoy the hassle-free education whilst putting the extra time and efforts saved in offline tuition to good use.
How the abrupt introduction of eLearning caused a disruption in education across the world due to a lack of eLearning tools, security and accessibility challenges, a skill gap, and cultural shift
We saw that students across many parts of the world suffered tremendously with the lack of these elements associated with eLearning and this continues to happen even in much-developed countries today, even close to 2 years into the pandemic.

Tutopiya ventured into a remote setting way before the Covid-19 impacted the physical learning set-up. We recognized that one-to-one online teaching offers many benefits.
Yes, students and parents have adapted and the digital learning experience has become the norm. There are pros and cons to the different modes of learning, be it physical or digital. Improvements in technology and better training of teachers to use technology seamlessly will ensure digital learning will be at the forefront.
Tutopiya is making International curricula accessible and affordable for students in Malaysia and worldwide. We do not wish for students to be constrained to national curricula which may not be taught in English, may not be holistic or globally accepted.
Tell us how Tutopiya reimagined traditional teaching into a digital mode?
Tutopiya started from a student’s simple request to have online tuition as he was boarded at Marlborough College in Malaysia. At that time, I was a full-time tutor and his mother reached out to me to teach him maths online. Initially, I taught him using Skype on my phone while handwriting formulae on paper because with a subject like math, it is not that easy to type out complex formulae quickly.
As a tutor, I had to regularly travel to students’ homes and usually spent at least an hour of valuable time travelling for a single lesson. With Tutopiya, commuting is not required from either side. This entices customers to want to try it out given the significant time savings. There is a need for a service like Tutopiya because there is a gap in the market for online one-to-one tutoring.
We have seen a surge in demand from students globally and in particular from Malaysia. We are currently teaching hundreds of students in Malaysia with outstanding success stories. Our IGCSE students obtained top results in the most recent (May/June 2021) exam sitting with a record number of students scoring A*s for 8-10 IGCSE subjects. Despite the school closures driven by the pandemic, our students have excelled and this is a testament to the quality of online education we provide.
