New: Umno Youth Chief Says ‘inhuman’ for Rakyat not to Have Enough Rice

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has defended the proposed restriction on foreigners purchasing local rice, emphasizing that it is a temporary solution to address the basic supplies shortage crisis. Akmal argued that this proposal should not be considered inhumane, as it ensures Malaysians have access to subsidized government rice when there’s a shortage.

He responded to criticism from Subang and Shah Alam Consumers Association (CASSA) president Datuk Seri Dr Jacob George, urging him to witness the reality of the situation on the ground. Akmal emphasized that this is not discrimination but a prioritization of Malaysians’ needs. “Inhumane measure he said. When there is enough and even excessive rice supply, then let anybody buy it. Now, the thing is rice supply is insufficient, Datuk,” Akmal says on his Facebook page.
