Legal expert Chris Tan noted this shift reflects Trump’s negotiation-based approach, while economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam stressed that US intentions to limit AI chip access to China remain. He also highlighted Malaysia’s proactive moves, such as its partnership with ARM Holdings.
However, the country’s heavy reliance on packaging and testing shows more investment is needed. MSIA president Wong Siew Hai stressed the importance of compliance and competitiveness to maintain Malaysia’s global semiconductor position.
