US Denies Interfering in Malaysia’s Political Leadership

The United States has denied allegations that it ever interfered in determining Malaysia’s political leadership, following claims made by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires David H Gamble Jr said Washington had never attempted to determine who should lead Malaysia and described reports suggesting otherwise as false. The statement comes after Abdul Hadi alleged that the US had offered assistance to PAS to bring down UMNO and take over the government. 

US Rejects Allegations Linked to Obama’s 2014 Malaysia Visit

Abdul Hadi claimed the alleged offer was made during former US president Barack Obama’s visit to Malaysia in 2014.

He also stressed that foreign powers should not interfere in determining the country’s leadership, while urging greater focus on resolving Malaysia’s internal political divisions and crises. 

The US Embassy’s response directly rejects the allegation and reiterates Washington’s position on Malaysia’s political affairs.

The exchange comes as political discussions continue over foreign influence and Malaysia’s sovereignty, with the issue likely to attract further attention amid ongoing domestic political developments.
