KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 — Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming announced that over 4,000 litterbugs have been caught under newly strengthened anti‑littering laws. Offenders face fines of up to RM2,000 and mandatory community service of up to 12 hours for minor offences such as tossing cigarette butts or spitting in public.
4000 Litterbugs Caught
Nga said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) now has “4,000 free social workers” cleaning the streets through these penalties. He added that KL’s safety will improve with the rollout of 10,000 AI‑powered facial recognition CCTV cameras, ensuring tighter surveillance and crime prevention across the city.
