The Finance Ministry has rejected claims that the Madani government has issued new gambling licences or permits since taking office in late 2022. The ministry said there had been no increase in the number of licensed gambling premises under the current administration, directly responding to recent remarks by Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
The ministry said existing gambling licences were issued before the Madani government came into power, with no new licences or permits approved since then. It also stressed that the government had not increased the number of gambling outlets operating nationwide.
Gambling Licences
The clarification follows criticism over the government’s approach to gambling activities, with the Finance Ministry saying several recent statements on the matter were misleading. The ministry maintained that any existing licensed operators remain subject to prevailing laws and regulations governing gambling activities in Malaysia.
The Finance Ministry says the Madani government has not issued any new gambling licences or permits since taking office.
