PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has withdrawn his appeal to refer eight legal questions to the Federal Court, including whether a sitting prime minister has immunity from civil suits.

The legal questions were linked to a civil suit filed by his former research assistant, Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, over an incident that allegedly took place eight years ago, before Anwar assumed office as prime minister.

During proceedings at the Court of Appeal on Wednesday, Anwar’s lawyer, Sanjay Mohan, informed the court that his client wished to withdraw the appeal and that the respondent had been notified.

The panel also ordered Anwar Ibrahim to pay RM50,000 in costs to Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, to be settled before 5pm on April 6.
