Anwar Settles Defamation Suit Against Pendang MP

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s defamation lawsuit against Pendang MP Awang Solahuddin Hashim was amicably resolved at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.

Anwar’s lawyer, SN Nair, informed Judge Roslan Mat Nor that both parties had reached a mutual agreement. 

Anwar Withdraws Case Without Costs

“The plaintiff withdraws this action without order as to costs and without liberty to refile,” he said, adding that a jointly agreed public statement was attached to the consent order. Nair thanked the court and requested that trial dates be vacated.

Awang Solahuddin’s counsel, Yusfarizal Yussoff, confirmed the settlement. The resolution means the case will not proceed to trial, with both sides agreeing to terms privately.

The lawsuit stemmed from remarks made by Awang Solahuddin that Anwar claimed were defamatory. By withdrawing the suit under agreed terms, Anwar signaled a preference for closure rather than prolonged litigation.

The settlement underscores the role of negotiated outcomes in politically sensitive cases, avoiding extended courtroom battles while allowing both parties to move forward.
