KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23, 2026 – Rafizi Ramli, leader of Bersama, has argued that Malaysia’s improving economic performance is failing to resonate with ordinary citizens, leading to voter dissatisfaction with the Madani Government.
Speaking after recent electoral setbacks in Johor and Negeri Sembilan, Rafizi said people are voting emotionally rather than based on economic indicators. “On paper, our economy has indeed developed, but it has no effect on the people below,” he remarked.
Anwar Worried
He noted that while growth figures show progress, the benefits are not felt at grassroots level. “When the economy develops, who is the first to get money? Other than the leaders, the government. The government collects taxes,” Rafizi said, pointing out that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has repeatedly celebrated record tax collections by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).
Rafizi suggested that the government’s emphasis on fiscal achievements overlooks the lived reality of citizens who feel no tangible improvement in their daily lives. He warned that this disconnect risks eroding support for the ruling coalition, despite Malaysia’s strong macroeconomic outlook.
The comments highlight growing frustration among voters who see economic expansion benefiting institutions rather than households.
