PUTRAJAYA, Aug 23, 2026 – The Madani Government has decided not to acquire Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd (DTSB), the company responsible for Malaysia’s identity-related services, according to the National Security Council (MKN).

In a statement, MKN said the decision followed media reports of a proposed buyout. “Regarding media reports on the proposed acquisition of Datasonic Technologies, which provides citizen identity services, the Madani Government has decided not to acquire DTSB,” it noted.

MKN stressed that safeguarding the identity of Malaysians is a strategic priority, with regulation carried out through a framework covering legal, financial, governance, and security aspects. It added that proactive strategies will continue to be explored to ensure sovereignty and value for public spending.

On Aug 20, NexG Bhd valued its wholly-owned subsidiary DTSB at RM7.5 billion after receiving a government request to submit an indicative price for a possible acquisition.

DTSB has been the vendor for MyKad and Malaysian passports since 2012, ensuring compliance with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards. It also holds mandates for the new MyKad structure, MyTentera, and MyPOCA, with supply commitments extending for several years.
