A 19‑year‑old Australian tourist was stabbed multiple times while eating at a McDonald’s in New York City. The attack occurred around 2am on Monday at the fast‑food chain on Eighth Avenue, near Penn Station.
According to reports, the victim was seated and eating when the suspect suddenly knifed him in the ribs and back after a brief exchange of words.

Police identified the attacker as Juan Mercedes, 25, who was arrested at the scene and charged with second‑degree assault. The teenager was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition and is expected to survive.
Witnesses described the McDonald’s as a hotspot for late‑night violence, with regular customers saying they avoid the location after dark. “There’s always fighting over here. Sometimes even in the daytime,” one customer told ABC7.
The stabbing came just hours after NYPD officers shot and killed a man wielding a butcher’s knife in a separate incident on the Lower East Side, underscoring a troubling spate of knife‑related violence in Manhattan. The Australian victim later told reporters he is recovering.
