They were buddies for 30 years and did not know they were sisters

HERTOGENBOSCH, Aug 13, 2026 – Childhood friends Meena Geltink and Minal Tijssen, who grew up in separate adoptive families in the Netherlands after being left at orphanages in India, have discovered they are biological sisters. The revelation came after a MyHeritage DNA test in April showed a rare 100% match. The pair first met at a gathering for adopted children in 1996, instantly feeling a strong bond and jokingly calling each other “sis” before losing touch for 15 years. Their emotional reunion this week was filled with tears, hugs, and laughter.

Dutch buddies are sisters

Geltink, 43, described the discovery as “a missing puzzle piece found,” while Tijssen, 44, said: “We were sisters the whole time, but we didn’t know.” Now living in France, Tijssen spends hours daily messaging her sister. Both women say the reunion has brought healing and joy, turning friendship into family after four decades apart.
