PRAIA, July 5 – Thousands of jubilant fans greeted Cape Verde’s Blue Sharks at Praia airport on Independence Day, celebrating their historic World Cup run. Supporters waved banners as the team returned from Miami, where they narrowly lost 3‑2 to reigning champions Argentina in extra time.

The squad will parade through the capital before meeting the president and government officials. Head coach Bubista praised his players for confounding expectations in their debut World Cup, reaching the knockout stages and winning admiration worldwide. Fan Edmilson Correia said, “After the heroes who fought for our independence, we now have these heroes – the Blue Sharks.”
In another shock result, Brazil were eliminated after a 2‑1 defeat to Denmark, stunning global football fans.
