In Pakistan, a convicted rapist, Daulat Khan, was reportedly released from prison by agreeing to marry the 36-year-old deaf victim he assaulted and impregnated in 2020 says the Peshawar High Court which commuted Khan’s life sentence on Monday after he married the woman.
The wedding was the result of an out-of court settlement reached through a jirga, a council of local leaders who make decisions based on religious law.

Khan was also fined 100,000 rupees ($440) for the sexual assault, which occurred in northern Pakistan’s Swat district. As a result of the rape, the victim who is reportedly deaf and mute, gave birth to a child.
