Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been allowed by the Court of Appeal to obtain a permanent international passport and a diplomatic passport to allow him to perform official duties abroad.

The three-judge panel, led by Judge Datuk Hanipah Farikullah, unanimously granted Zahid’s application, which was denied by the High Court on February 3. The panel was satisfied that Zahid’s application had merit. Meanwhile, his RM2 million bail remains in place. Zahid had applied for the release of his passport on a permanent basis.
The Deputy Prime Minister claimed that it was impractical and complicated for him to apply to the court every time he needed to travel abroad for work. His passport had been surrendered to the court as an additional security measure after he was charged with corruption, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering involving the Akalbudi Foundation funds.
