In June 2023, the MCMC intended to take legal action against Meta, the parent company of Facebook, for not cooperating in removing scam ads.

Now, the issue has been resolved after a meeting between Meta, MCMC, and the Police. Meta has committed to collaborating closely with them to combat cybercrime, including addressing issues like race, royalty, religion, impersonation, online gambling, and scam ads.

Fake Accounts

Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil, highlighted that Malaysians suffered losses of nearly RM330 million through Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp from January to May 2023.
