The Guardian newspaper in the UK says COVID-19 Delta variant is in the air you breathe and simple, brief contact can transmit it.
But it also says experts warned against the use of alarming language in describing the variant.
Nevertheless, in Australia, the New South Wales premier, Gladys Berijiklian, describes how brief contacts can transmit the virus.
She says “scarily fleeting” encounters are resulting in Delta spread in Sydney. This is after CCTV shows two people walking past each other at Bondi Junction Westfield transmitted the virus.
The state’s health minister, Brad Hazzard, describes it as “a gold medallist when it comes to jumping from one person to another”.
Officials are saying it is no more about close contact anymore. Brief encounters with people on the street can transmit the virulent variant.
AIRBORNE?
While experts are not saying it is airborne, there is no other way to explain it than it can transmit through respiratory aerosols.
The spread is more likely if you’re close to the person infected says an expert.
The expert adds there’s still a potential for virus particles to be in the air, and breathed in by someone passing by.
