Record 199 deaths in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia reported a record 199 COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday making it the deadliest day since the start of the pandemic.

The national death toll reached 7,440.

Thirty-three of the victims were brought in dead.

According to the health ministry, 927 patients are in the intensive care unit. The ministry also says 459 requires respiratory support.

The country saw 11,985 new COVID-19 cases yesterday.

This is the ninth consecutive day that Malaysia has reported more than 10,700 new infections.

More than half of the new cases were from the Klang Valley area with 5,550 in Selangor and 1,174 in Kuala Lumpur.
