Twitter users are surprised to find out that more than 70% of Halal certified items belong to non-Muslim companies. However, it appears that netizens are okay with the fact, some are even stating that Muslim owned businesses may not even apply for the cert.

Halal certs in Malaysia

Twitter users state the entirety of this is due to Bumiputera owned companies not needing to register for a certificate. This is due to the fact, as one user states, nobody will question the Halal status of “Sambal Nyet.” However, they might question if the item has a foreign name or a non-Muslim name.

There are Muslims that are more than happy having non-Muslims complying to the strict rules of the certificate. Despite this, there is one user who claims that Malay business people sometimes cannot afford the certificate. However, there are strict rules when it comes to applying for the certificate.

Another user states that people questioning this are ridiculous and state that Muslim mothers do not need the certificate to cook dinner for their kids. Others respond stating that this is exactly why this user is not in business, but rather just a consumer.
