Malaysia’s National Day Eve celebrations are being adjusted due to worsening haze, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s scheduled address moved from Dataran Merdeka to the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC). The change comes as authorities continue monitoring air quality ahead of the August 30 celebrations.
Haze and National Day
The National Day 2026 Prime Minister’s Address was originally planned as an outdoor event at Dataran Merdeka. Organisers decided to shift the programme indoors as a precaution, allowing the address and related activities to proceed while reducing public exposure to unhealthy air.
The move comes after the government previously said it was closely monitoring haze conditions and their potential impact on National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations. Authorities have yet to make a final decision on whether other outdoor programmes, including the National Day parade, will require changes as conditions continue to be assessed.
Haze has forced the Prime Minister’s National Day Eve address to move from Dataran Merdeka to PICC.
