SINGAPORE, Oct 6 — Two Indian nationals were sentenced to five years and one month in jail and 12 strokes of the cane each for assaulting and robbing two sex workers while on holiday. Arokkiyasami Daison, 23, and Rajendran Mayilarasan, 27, targeted the women after being introduced to them in Little India.
Indian Tourists Jailed
The pair tied up, slapped, and robbed the first victim of jewellery, cash, and documents, before attacking another woman hours later and stealing her valuables. Their crimes were exposed after one victim reported the assault. The court cited the violent nature of the offences in imposing corporal punishment. Singapore enforces strict penalties, including mandatory caning, for violent crimes such as robbery.
