The Johor government has approved 220 temporary slaughter centres for this year’s Aidiladha sacrificial ritual, up from 204 centres in 2023. State Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman Datuk Zahari Sarip expects a rise in livestock numbers from the 9,304 animals slaughtered last year.

Johor currently has 21 registered slaughterhouses, with plans to expand in response to industry growth. Zahari urged all permitted operators to strictly follow Veterinary Department SOPs and encouraged breeders to register for health monitoring and better disease management. The announcement was made during his visit to the Datin Halimah Permanent Farmers’ Market.
