PETALING JAYA, June 4 – Analysts say Barisan Nasional’s (BN) decision to push for early Johor state elections provides the coalition its “best window” to reassert dominance. Universiti Malaya’s Awang Azman Pawi noted Johor remains BN’s stronghold, citing grassroots strength and its 2022 landslide win.

He said Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s leadership adds credibility, positioning Johor as BN’s “solo comeback” laboratory. However, risks loom if BN fails to secure a large majority. Azmi Hassan highlighted rivals’ internal challenges, while Azizuddin Sani cautioned that BN’s 2022 victory was aided by low turnout among non-Malay voters.
