KUALA LUMPUR July 11, 2026: The Johor state election is unlikely to provide smaller parties such as MUDA and Parti Bersama Malaysia with an opportunity to make significant gains, according to Ilham Centre chief researcher Associate Professor Dr Mohd Yusry Ibrahim.
He also believes Perikatan Nasional (PN) faces difficulties in regaining the political momentum it enjoyed following the 2022 Johor election and the 2023 six-state polls.

Yusry said recent political developments suggest PN enters the Johor polls from a weaker position.
He argued that Johor’s political landscape differs greatly from PN strongholds such as Kelantan and Terengganu.
