A Kelantan labourer was fined RM3,000 by the Pasir Mas sessions court after pleading guilty to exposing his 20‑month‑old daughter to drugs, causing her to test positive for benzodiazepines and methamphetamine.

Father’s Plea for Leniency Cites Remorse and Family Hardship

Shahrul Hisham Lailatulazhma, 27, faced charges under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries up to 10 years’ jail or a RM20,000 fine. Judge Zulkpli Abdullah ordered three months’ jail if the fine is unpaid, plus a RM2,000 good behaviour bond and 36 hours of community service.

Prosecutors stressed the toddler’s vulnerability, while Shahrul, unrepresented, pleaded for leniency, citing remorse and his responsibility to support his unemployed wife.
