Lecturer in Terengganu Claims to be Earning Only RM1,200 Despite New Minimum Wage

The discussion of professionals receiving low wages in Malaysia is one that is thoroughly discussed. Apparently, a Threads user who claims to be a lecturer in Terengganu says that he’s only earning RM1,200 a month. That is actually lower than the national RM1,700 minimum wage.

Others asked, if a lecturer is barely earning minimum wage, how much are the other staff receiving? Additionally, with the rise of professional Malaysians seeking work overseas, it is unclear how our local professional fields will be impacted. 

Some are confused as to the national minimum wage not being enforced in other states. However, each state has different laws when it comes to this, and Selangor was one of the few states that actually aligned themselves with the new minimum wage.
