Former PKR treasurer-general Lee Chean Chung has resigned as the Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya, citing concerns over governance and his ability to continue serving constituents effectively.
Lee announced his resignation with immediate effect on Friday, following his three-year suspension from PKR. He is expected to formally submit his resignation from the party on October 5.
Lee Chean Chung Resigns as Petaling Jaya MP With Immediate Effect
The Petaling Jaya MP has recently been increasingly critical of the party leadership and government over the handling of parliamentary allocations.
On Aug 6, Lee questioned the status of RM3 million in remaining allocations for his constituency, alleging that the funds were being channeled through political party leaders rather than elected representatives.
He argued that parliamentary allocations were public funds intended for the benefit of constituents and questioned why there had been no official announcement if the mechanism for distributing the funds had changed.
Lee also asked why no circular, official statement or guidelines had been issued to Petaling Jaya residents explaining the alleged changes.
His resignation follows months of tensions with PKR leadership, including his earlier resignation from the party’s central leadership council in June. He had previously said he would remain a PKR member and continue serving as Petaling Jaya MP until Parliament was dissolved.
