KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 – Former finance minister Lim Guan Eng and ex‑Damansara MP Tony Pua defended Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) restructuring of the LRT3 project, insisting it saved taxpayers RM9.72 billion. Responding to remarks by the Sultan of Selangor, they stressed the Shah Alam LRT Line was never halted during PH’s administration from 2018 to 2020.

They highlighted that costs ballooned to RM31.65 billion under Barisan Nasional, but PH reduced it to RM16.63 billion through rationalisation measures, later reinstating five deferred stations under a second‑phase contract. The final cost of RM21.93 billion remains significantly lower, with interest savings projected at RM10 billion. Lim and Pua said the changes ensured functionality while redirecting funds to welfare and development.
