KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, 100, and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, 73, have withdrawn their defamation lawsuits against each other, reaching an out-of-court settlement. Dr Mahathir dropped his suit over Zahid’s alleged “kutty” remarks without the right to refile, while Zahid withdrew his suit accusing Mahathir of interfering in his court case and also dropped contempt proceedings linked to Mahathir’s press conference last December. Judicial Commissioner Gan Techiong resolved the cases without costs. Lawyers for both parties said the decision was made in the public interest to promote national unity. Neither leader attended court today.
