Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reducing Malaysia’s fiscal deficit to build a more stable economy and retain investor confidence.
Malaysia Aims to Cut Fiscal Deficit to 3.8% in 2025
Speaking at the Finance Ministry’s monthly assembly, Anwar noted the deficit was reduced from 5.5% in 2022 to 4.1% in 2024, with a target of 3.8% for 2025. He stressed that responsible fiscal policies are essential for long-term economic health.
Anwar explained that boosting investor confidence will help generate national revenue, create jobs, and drive development. He also countered criticism suggesting the government should prioritize spending over fiscal tightening.
