Former Meta engineering manager Kun Chen says only 2% of engineers are using AI “very effectively,” creating a sharp divide in workplace productivity. Speaking on the A Life Engineered podcast, Chen noted most companies see just a 10–15% boost because employees use AI in shallow ways.

Continuous Learning Key in AI Era

The small group mastering “agentic engineering” is driving massive gains, with firms reallocating critical projects to them. Chen warned that developers who fail to adapt risk being left behind, as tech companies restructure into leaner teams. He urged engineers to embrace continuous learning rather than rely on specific tools that quickly become outdated.
