A video has gone viral on social media showing what appears to be a Malaysian man wearing a 1930s German symbol historically associated with the Holocaust. Social media user @MahmudZUllah states that the footage was taken during Rohingya Genocide Memorial Day.
For the most part, the symbol is known for the spread of hatred and white supremacism in Europe. It appears that not many Malaysians know the history behind the symbol beyond its anti-semitic link.

X users say that the symbol does not represent anyone who’s not a white person. Some find it funny that Southeast Asians and Latin Americans love to associate themselves with such symbols of hate and prejudice.
Some social media users noted that the Rohingya community is Muslim, which contrasts with certain narratives often expressed locally about religious obligations.
Others pointed out that the 1930s German symbol was historically intended to exclude non‑white populations, making its use by a non‑white individual appear contradictory.
When regards to the Rohingya community, social media users are split with some spewing insults to them, while others are defending them citing that they have no other place to go.
