KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6, 2026 – Three Malaysian women aged between 30 and 39 were arrested at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, for attempting to smuggle drugs, confirmed Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan. The women, all from Sabah, were detained by Indonesian police on Monday. Investigations revealed two of them had prior drug-related records and were addicts.
Malaysian Women Arrested
However, the seized drugs were small in quantity and believed to be for personal use. Hussein clarified the arrests were unrelated to earlier cases involving a Malaysian pilot and a 22-year-old man caught in Indonesia. Airport staff discovered the drugs hidden in luggage and shoes after the women arrived from Kota Kinabalu. Hussein added Malaysia’s geographical position made it a transit route for international syndicates. He said SOPs at entry and exit points will be tightened to prevent Malaysia from being labelled a drug transit hub.
