KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6, 2026 – PKR has rejected PAS’ proposal that Parliament be dissolved should DAP withdraw from the federal administration, calling the suggestion “immature.” PKR deputy secretary-general Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad said the Madani government under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim remains stable and capable of completing its full term. He stressed that governance is built on the people’s mandate and should run its course, especially as the administration has proven its ability to drive economic growth.
Dissolving Parliament
“If DAP grassroots decide their leaders should leave administrative positions, stability remains intact because their MPs are still part of the government bloc,” Saifuddin said in a statement. He was responding to PAS assistant secretary-general Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil, who argued that a DAP exit would signal the unity government’s collapse and warrant fresh elections. Saifuddin countered that PAS’ view showed a failure to understand the fundamentals of coalition governance. He added that any DAP move would be a strategic decision to strengthen party structures, not a threat to government stability. With more than two-thirds parliamentary support, the Madani government can continue functioning smoothly, he said, noting DAP ministers have fulfilled their duties despite political pressure.
