An unemployed man has been sentenced to three months in jail and fined RM400 after pleading guilty to impersonating a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer.
Mohd Izham Mohd Zainuddin, 34, was sentenced by the Selayang Magistrate’s Court and ordered to begin his jail term from the date of his arrest on July 30.

The court heard that Mohd Izham introduced himself as a MACC officer and displayed a work pass bearing the commission’s logo to a 69-year-old man at a house in Taman Selasih Phase 2, Batu Caves. As he was not a public servant, the offence was prosecuted under Section 171 of the Penal Code.
The same accused also pleaded not guilty to a separate cheating charge involving RM31,500. He is accused of deceiving a 55-year-old woman into handing over the money for the purchase of a plot of land in Hulu Selangor.
The cheating case, which carries a potential jail term of up to 10 years, will be mentioned again on November 17.
