SINGAPORE, Aug 25 — Every Singaporean child will receive nearly S$70,000 (US$55,140) in direct financial support by age 17 under the new SG Child Support Package, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced at the National Day Rally. The scheme consolidates existing programmes such as the Baby Bonus and Large Families Scheme, offering sustained help from birth through adolescence.
The package includes a S$10,000 cash gift disbursed within the first year, a S$5,000 CDA First Step Grant, and up to S$5,000 in government co-matching. Support will extend until age 17, compared to age 12 under current schemes, with more funds provided in cash rather than Child Development Accounts to ensure flexibility.

Children from single-parent families will also benefit, marking a shift from previous policies that limited cash gifts to lawfully married parents. “The traditional family unit remains the prevailing social norm, but we recognize the importance of supporting every Singaporean child,” said the National Population and Talent Division.
The package ensures equal support regardless of birth order, with firstborns receiving S$42,000 more than current schemes and third-borns S$19,000 more. Over 610,000 children across 380,000 households are expected to benefit.
Mr Wong emphasized that while policies cannot dictate parenthood, the government aims to ease financial burdens. “If you choose to have children, the government will stand with you. We will provide more support, and walk alongside parents throughout the journey,” he said.
