A recent X thread done by BFM news has stirred the conversation among social media users. Apparently, their finding shows that 81% of 40,000 people are using a form of buy now pay later to buy essential items like baby formula.

Social media users state that this is because income is stagnant and prices are rising. This is pointing to a slower economy as this issue wasn’t as prevalent as it was a few years ago. Additionally, with Trump’s hard tariffs, it might be a tough time for Malaysians in the near future.
Others claim the usage of such tools are in lieu of convenience. Logging in to their bank apps to approve an online purchase is too much of a hassle, claim a user.
