The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has refunded RM9.35 billion in excess taxes to over three million taxpayers as of June 30, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance (MOF). Of this, RM2.73 billion went to 1.07 million individuals who received full refunds.

In a parliamentary reply to Chong Chieng Jen, the MOF explained that corporate refunds—often larger—are prioritised by length of delay, with older cases addressed first. All eligible taxpayers are expected to receive at least partial refunds within the year, subject to the government’s financial position. Meanwhile, the ministry clarified that the Low-Value Goods (LVG) tax only applies to imported items.
