Five teenage girls were brought before the Children’s Court in Papar for allegedly hurling abusive words at Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir.

The charges, read in closed proceedings before Sessions Judge Elsie Primus, state that the accused acted with common intention when they verbally abused the victim at their school dormitory on July 15 between 10 pm and 11 pm.
The incident, which took place at SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha, could have caused the victim emotional distress. They were charged under Section 507C(1) of the Penal Code, read with Section 34, carrying up to one year’s jail, a fine, or both.
