Rafizi Ramli strongly rejected claims by Liyana Marzuki that he is plotting against Anwar Ibrahim for political ambition.
Rafizi Ramli has mounted a sweeping rebuttal against political commentator Liyana Marzuki, dismantling allegations that his growing rift with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is driven by personal ambition or impatience to seize power.
Power Grab
In a lengthy statement, Rafizi acknowledged that tensions with Anwar are real and that the recent PKR election was “planned,” but firmly rejected comparisons to the bitter 1998 Anwar-Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad fallout. Instead, he framed the disagreement as a clash over reform priorities and governance principles.
Rafizi argued that Anwar has become overly focused on preserving political alliances and securing a second term, even if it means compromising on institutional reforms promised by PKR for decades. He said his criticisms stem from discomfort over governance issues, including concerns involving enforcement agencies and the rise of politically connected figures wielding influence without accountability.
Disloyalty?
He also dismantled accusations of disloyalty by recounting his role in helping rebuild support for Anwar during critical political crises, including after the Sheraton Move and ahead of GE2018.
Rafizi maintained that had he truly sought power, he could have aligned with rival factions long ago. Instead, he said his loyalty remains with reform ideals, not party feudalism or political patronage.
