Selangor Football Club (FC) shocked fans by pulling out of the Charity Shield game on May 10, citing safety concerns following recent player assaults. In a late-night Facebook post, the club explained their tough choice despite the Malaysian Football League’s (MFL) decision to proceed with the tournament.
Safety concerns prompting Selangor FC to skip match
The withdrawal came after a string of criminal incidents and threats against players and staff. Among the victims was Selangor FC’s Faisal Halim, who was attacked with acid. While authorities promised heightened security, Selangor FC prioritized their team’s well-being, prompting disappointment from opponents Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).
